Our bears are made using traditional artisan methods, which means that they contain small parts, such as old-fashioned cotter pin joints (made from wood and metal); pellets (for adding that comforting weight and squish); glass eyes (for the old bear 'boot button' look and twinkle); and some (such as our bunnies) have metal wire inside so we can shape ears, paws etc. All this attention to detail adds to the authentic feel of our bears, but does mean that they are not children's toys. They are collectable artist bears made for older children from 14 years to over 100.
Sorry to disappoint, but no.
I try to keep my use of plastic to a minimum. This means I use natural materials such as mohair, cotton or alpaca to make my bears and don't buy fabrics for my bears such as acrylic, polyester, nylon, which are all made from plastic. If a bear is made from 'faux fur', 'faux suede' or 'faux cashmere' etc. it's made from plastic.
The exception to this rule is that I do sometimes use pellets to weight my bears which are made from recycled plastic bottles, and some plastic stuffing also made from recycled plastic bottles. I do also have a small stock of faux suede fabric that I bought before realising the environmentally friendly alternatives available to me, and I will use this up rather than send it to landfill, then only use natural materials for the paw pads.
